Primary Trips
Throughout the year, the SLO™ organized educational trips to various locations in Muscat for students in the primary and secondary school.

The students and their teachers visited the PDO Planetarium where they enjoyed a presentation of planets and stars followed by an amazing laser show; Bait Al Baranda Museum where they learned about Muscat's history; Bait Al Zubair Museum where they saw pictures and maps of old Muscat and the Armed Forces Museum on the occasion of Army Day, where they also attended an art exhibition with our Art Teacher.

Eid Al Adha Charity Toys Collection
A toy drive with Bait Al Khayr Charity was organized on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.

After a very generous response from both students and staff more than 600 toys were collected and distributed to the Association of Early Intervention for Children with Special Needs, Al Amel School and Omar Bin Khattab Institute for the Blind.

University Presentations
This year we received visits from numerous University Admission Officers around the world including: American University - Paris, American University - Beirut, Amideast - Oman, Mount Allison - Canada, Carnegie Mellon - Qatar Foundation, Georgetown - Qatar Foundation, Nortwestern - Qatar Foundation, Texas A&M - Qatar Foundation, Virginia Commonwealth School of Arts - Qatar Foundation, Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar Foundation, Glion Institute and Les Roche Hotel School - Switzerland, Royal College of Surgeons (videoconference), Leeds University - UK, Newcastle University - UK, Nottingham University - UK and University of Pennsylvania - USA (videoconference).

Minister of Education's Visit
On Saturday March 7th 2009, The International School of Choueifat - Muscat received the visit of the Minister of Education, His Excellency Mr. Yehia Saoud Al Suleimi accompanied by Dr. Muna Salim Al Jardani Under Secretary for Education and Curriculum, Mr. Sultan Al Salami Director of the Minister's Office, Mrs. Aisha Al Bulushi Director General of Directorate of Private Schools, Mr. Khalifa Al Khasabi Deputy Director of Directorate of Private Schools, Dr. Amal Al Busaidi Director General of Curriculum and Development, Mr. Moosa Al Hinai Deputy Director of Education and Evaluation, Mr. Khalid Al Siyabi Director General of Information Technology Department and Mr. Abdullah Al Bahrani Deputy Director of Information Technology Department.

His Excellency, The Minister was received by the Director of the International School of Choueifat - Muscat Mr. Michael Bradley, Mr. Ramzi Germanos SABIS® Gulf Regional Director, Mr. Abdullah Moosa Abdul Rahman Al Raisi School's Owner and senior staff of the school.

The Minister along with the high officials from the ministry attended a presentation and discussion session about the SABIS® system held by Mr. Ramzi Germanos SABIS® Gulf Regional Director. At the end of the session, the group led by school's officials toured the school. The delegation visited the new Integrated Teaching and Learning Hall, the Library, the sports facilities (semi-Olympic swimming pool, stadium, ballet studio, gymnastics halls, indoor games hall), the classroom buildings, the Auditorium and attended a KG 2 English lesson.

Arabic Workshop
On Tuesday, April 28th more than 60 teachers from private schools in the Muscat area and representatives of the Arabic Department at the Ministry of Education attended a workshop by Mr. Imad Nasr, the Head of Arabic at the International School of Choueifat. The participants were welcomed by the school's director, Mr. Michael Bradley and the deputy director, Mr. Ahmed El Sibai after which presentations started.

Teachers from various schools, including Choueifat, made presentations on the topic of the workshop "Arabic Stories: Narration and Analysis". The representatives of the Arabic Department from the Ministry of Education were very happy with the outcome of the event.

Management Seminar
On Monday, May 18th numerous representatives from the Ministry of Education - Directorate of Private Schools attended a workshop about "ISC Muscat Management Practices" lead by Mr. Ahmad Sibai, Deputy Director at the International School of Choueifat. The participants were welcomed by the school's director, Mr. Michael Bradley after which the presentations started.

Mr. Ahmed Sibai conducted a presentation about management practices at ISC Muscat, students and teachers' follow-up, professional development of staff and syllabus development. Mrs. Ionela Yammine (Student Life Coordinator) followed with a presentation about the Student Life Organization™ and students' role in managing the organization.

The workshop concluded with a tour of the school. Very positive reviews were written by the officials in the school guest book.

Cancer Walkathon
Teachers and students from all grades took part in the "Stand Up to Cancer!" walkathon organized by The National Association for Cancer Awareness held in October.

Assemblies
This year's assemblies for Grades 2 to 12 took place in the Auditorium. At the end of each assembly certificates were distributed to students for their academic and sports achievements.

Hat Day
On Wednesday, November 12 the SLO™ organized this year's Hat Day for students from KG 1 to Grade 12! The Hat Parade was impressive and students enjoyed the event!

National Day
On November 18th students of all grades joined the celebrations organized by the Student Life Organization™ on the occasion of Oman's National Day.

Students displayed and waved the national flags throughout the day, they sang the national anthem and saluted His Majesty, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said wishing him and the people of Oman long life, peace, happiness and prosperity.

Culture Day
This year's Culture Day took place on Thursday February 26th. Students, teachers and parents representing more than 20 nationalities organized stands where they displayed national costumes, flags, traditional objects, served traditional foods, played music and danced.

In a very colorful day showcasing the various nationalities in the school, participants representing Oman, Algeria, Australia, Canada, Egypt, India, Iran, Ireland, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea, Syria, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey and Zanzibar celebrated enthusiastically their specialties. Children of all ages enjoyed horse rides, henna designs and face painting. Visitors witnessed Omani ladies demonstrating traditional Omani arts and crafts and were able to taste traditional Omani bread baked on the spot.

The food lovers savored the taste of a variety of foods including Omani halwa, Australian cookies, Canadian pancakes with maple syrup, Romanian placinta, Lebanese falafel, Egyptian koshari, Indian biryiani, Zanzibari mandazi etc.

Grades 9 to 12 student members of the Student Life Organization® prepared the artistic program. They participated in a traditional Lebanese wedding (Zeffe) where they acted and danced to music illustrating the traditions and customs of the wedding. They recited poems and a group of Grade 6 boys performed a traditional Dhofari dance. The day continued with Lebanese, Palestinian, Egyptian and Romanian traditional dances.

It was a wonderful opportunity for students, parents, teachers and guests to spend the day together enjoying the joyful atmosphere that accompanied the celebrations.

Mother's Day
On Saturday, March 21 2009 celebrations were organized for Mother's Day. At the end of the day all students took home flowers for their mothers. It was prepared by the Student Life Organization™.

The event debuted in the kindergarten building where more than 500 students from KG 1, KG 2 and Grade 1 were introduced to the celebration. The teachers had a very busy day celebrating and teaching the students about the event and its meaning. At the end of the day mothers collecting their children had a very nice surprise as all children greeted and gave them a rose.

Grandparents Day
In February more than 400 students from KG 1, KG 2 and Grade 1 received their grandparents at school.

Students, grandparents and parents alike were happy to visit their children at school, meet teachers and classmates and have a look at what the children do every day in class. The children and grandparents worked together on an art project. The art works made by grandchildren and grandparents were amazing!

No Plastic Bags! Campaign
On January 8th students from Grades 9 to 12 participated at supermarkets in the "Say No to Plastic Bags!" national campaign organized by the Environment Society of Oman. The aim is to reduce the use of plastic bags.

Cleopatra - The Adventures of a Princess
ARTSPOT Educational Theatre from Buenos Aires - Argentina performed in the school's Auditorium "Cleopatra - The Adventure of a Princess". The play presented the story of Cleopatra, the youngest daughter of Pharaoh Ptolemy.

Science Demonstrations
Various Science demonstrations were held throughout the year for students in Grades 3 to 6 with the help of Mad Science Team. The students experienced practical demonstrations on the use of jellies, polymers, foams, gases and bubbles in shows such as "Spin, Pop, Boom!" and "Slippery Slime".

I'll read you a story
At the beginning of May 2009, the Library organized an open session called "I'll read you a story!" Parents of students in Grades 2 and 3 joined their children at the Library. The children read a story and went together through the new reading programs "Reader Rabbit" and "Accelerated Reader".

World Athletics Day
Oman Athletics Association organized a fun day at Sultan Qaboos Complex on Thursday May 7th to celebrate World Athletics Day!

17 students from Grades 4 to 8 participated in the event and won events such as sprint, long jump and high jump! Well done!!
